02 — Identify Critical Assumptions: Template

Use this template to identify and prioritize critical assumptions.

Assumption List

For each assumption, document:

Assumption: [What you're assuming]
Category: [User/Technical/Business/Value]
Risk Level: [High/Medium/Low]
Impact: [High/Medium/Low]
Evidence: [What evidence do you have?]
Test Needed: [How will you test this?]

Critical Assumptions

Identify which assumptions are critical:

Critical if:

  • If false, the solution fails

  • Uncertainty is high

  • Impact is high

Risk Matrix

Prioritize assumptions by risk and impact:

High Risk / High Impact → Critical (test first) High Risk / Low Impact → Test if time allows Low Risk / High Impact → Monitor Low Risk / Low Impact → Track but don't prioritize

Prioritized Assumptions List

Top Priority (Critical)

  1. [Assumption 1]

  2. [Assumption 2]

  3. [Assumption 3]

Medium Priority

  1. [Assumption 4]

  2. [Assumption 5]

Low Priority

  1. [Assumption 6]

  2. [Assumption 7]

Instructions: List all assumptions, identify critical ones, and prioritize them. Focus on top 5-10 critical assumptions.
